Hello!!
What a great response to our first blog post! We are so excited to have you be a part of this new site! It has been fun reading all of your posts. Your enthusiasm is contagious! I loved a comment made by Allison (post #88) to “bring on the cuteness!”Β We couldn’t agree more!
In answer to some of your questions…
-Yes, Jan (post #57), we will definitely have a “wishlist” feature on our site! I chuckled with your comment, “You WILL have a wishlist feature wonβt you? Pretty please? With red embroidered cherries on top?” π
-Yes, Patty (post #111), we will also include a series of Embroidery 101 tutorials. Those ebooks and video tutorials will be free! Michelle has written our first eBook on how to machine applique. There’s a video on this, too! I love videos!
I’ll answer more of your questions in our next blog post, but in the meantime, here is our next “post-and-win” question!
I know a lot of people who see something that has been made or machine embroidered and don’t think they could ever do it. So….
“I could do it for you – here’s my card” π
Oops – hit submit before I finished! I would say “Yes you can!” and tell them all about YCMT and SWAKembroidery π
I would tell them “Yes you can, and i will help if you need me to”
LOL – Too funny Christy! π
-Kris
I say, “You Can Make This.com!!” Trust me if I can do it, you can too!
First, I’d say thank you and brag about how fun it was (must take credit for all the success YCMT and SWAK has given me.) Then I’d let them know that I used to think that, but hey, look what I did! You can do this too with the two greatest websites to ever inhabit the internet!
Well first I would do as Christy says and hand them a card. But if they say they have a machine and would love to know where to get the cute designs of course I would have them go to the website! Good Luck! Looking forward for more great addictions.
Jen
I am just beginning to learn how to do machine embroidery–so, if you like what you see you could certainly do it too. If you don’t have a machine, I will try to help you with mine.
Oh yes you can!!
“Oh Boy Do I have a site for you!!” I think would be my first response.
With that said…I am too a newbie to embroidery and just unpacked my Brother PE700ii (which I just think is wonderful)! So I am an eager girl for SWAK! I am just itching for some stitchin’!!
So for sure I would hook them up with this awesome site and maybe ask if they would like to start a embroidery Group!! Sounds like fun to me.. Hmm Maybe I will have to start some convo’s about this myself!!
I can’t thank you all enough for this site.. So as I sit here with my face pressed against my screen I am brought back to a commercial from so long ago where an eager shopper is pressed against the store window and Saying “Open Open Open”! haha.. I can’t wait!!!
Well, that’s what I said about having a baby “so cute! But so hard!”….Four kiddos later I realize it wasn’t so bad π Both are labors of love!
Anybody can sew! Come over and I’ll help you with it.
You’re right….you can’t if you don’t try. If you decide you’d like to try this, I’ll be happy to help and can also point you to some websites that can help and explain just about anything you might have questions about.
I used to think the same thing……
I usually say, “let me do it for you!” But I also say,
“Ohmygoodness, there is so much online now that makes it easy. If you’re interested, I can email you some info from this great site where i get most of my easy to follow patterns….lots of free stuff, too”
I love Christie’s comment lol!
I honestly believe that if you want to learn, it is easy. I think all of us that visit both SWAK and YCMT are proof of that. How many of us expected something to be difficult until we downloaded a pattern or a tutorial, only to discover – Hey, that wasn’t so bad after all!
Can’t wait to see the new site unfold. Keep up the great work!
I would say..I though I couldn’t do it but with the help of YCMT I can. I never thought I could make any of the fab designs on here. These ebooks have helped me learn to sew..tricks of the trade and so much more! The cutest clothes in the neighborhood!! I can’t wait to see the tutorials on embroidery. I have no idea where to start.
Once I have a machine and can do it myself I’ll tell them “if I can do it, you can do it.” I’ve had a lot of people tell me they couldn’t sew an outfit for their daughter after seeing an outfit I’ve made with a YCMT pattern. I always tell them if I can do it so can they because I couldn’t sew before trying a YCMT pattern.
I would tell them the same thing I tell my kids as they take on the challenge of something new: “Think big and make it happen”. And then I would go into my usual “mom mode” and offer up some great resources…like YCMT and SWAK of course π
I would encourage anyone who wants to learn about machine embroidery to get online and visit your site’s and others to see what it is all about.
Ask if they can download E-Patterns and designs, and then tell them how easy it really is to learn.
I would offer my assistance if needed and maybe together we could learn something new.
Nothing better than helping a friend and spending girl time together.
well, like Christy, I would probably first offer them my card because i am trying to build up a home-based business. but if the person either has an emb machine or is thinking about getting one, i’d tell how much fun it is, offer to help them in any way i can, and share great online places with them like SWAK Embroidery!
I would tell them yes you can! If I can do it any one can. I am self taught and on the things I couldn’t figure out I had help from alot of wonderful people that were willing to share their knowledge and love of machine embroidery.
I would say, “yes, you can!” There are lots of things to learn but it’s not that hard. Just make sure to pick a machine that will do the size you want. If you have a machine that only does the 4×4 like mine, you are limited to small designs and not everyone makes that size for you π¦
Other then that machine embroidery is the food of Happiness!
Well, as one of those that has said this quite often in the past and lately has been branching out of my sewing comfort zone to find that “Yes, I Can”….I guess I’d simply tell them that if you don’t try….you’ll never know.
So…Yes, I Can Do This (hmmm, sounds vaugely familiar).
Of course, it’s easier to public say this knowing that you’ll have tutorials and videos and books to help me reach this goal….so maybe I should change it to:
YICDT with YCMT’s help.
With a few lessons from the right instructor, you will be doing this and lots more. You will become so addicted, people will begin to think you have gone into hibrination.
I always offer my help and let them know where to go to get great patterns and designs! YCMT !!! and now SWAK!!!
Try it, you’ll like it!!
Embroidery takes time but the end result is so worth the work. Practice is how you become a great embroiderer.
I forgot to mention that with great websites like SWAK you can find any designs you could imagine, project ideas and tips that make it so easy.
Well, of course, I would point them in the direction of the new SWAK Embroidery site and blog!! π
Oh, that’s no problem. What colors would like it in? I can have it ready in a few days!
I would also offer to help and tell them “You can make this, too!”
I’d say: ” If I can do it you can do it” and “I’d be happy to show you how”
Sure you can! Let me show you!
I love getting comments on my embroidered items…and when they say..I could never do that…I tell them…oh I dont do it…my machine does!
For my other self-designed items…I tell them, look Im only 26, a few years ago I would have laughed if you said one day I will be sewing new kids clothes everyday…and now I am! I still amaze myself…so seriously..if I can do it…ANYONE CAN!
A “thank you” is a great place to start. It’s almost disappointing to have to explain that almost anyone can create things…with a little help.
I have sent many “wanna-be’s” to the YCMT website to encourage them to try. I may lose a customer, but I gain a fellow seamstress.
I find the patterns, books and blogs helpful whether you have been sewing for a lifetime or just getting started. I’m a perfect example that you can teach an old dog new tricks.
“Yes, you could”. “Let me show you how.”
I would say you can do anything if you put your mind to it. Plus it is the machine that does all the work for you
OH, yes you can! I am always a big fan of turning people on to creative pursuits. I think sharing resources is important too – like websites, stores, and sources!
I tell them “If I can do it anyone can!” I have only had my machine for a few months and with the help of ycmt.com and soon to be swak, it has been easy! It is sooo fun to do and once you try it, you are hooked! I would also say, Welcome to a new addiction!LOL
I would say “well the people who can do that are the type of people who are glad to share their knowledge so that people who now say they can’t do that will one day be able to do that”.
And after that tongue twister I would direct them to places like YCMT and SWAK.
“Yes you can! It’s amazingly easy!” Sharing a source of how to do something is great Karma. It always results in blessings to both the receiver AND giver of the information. I cannot wait to see more of what’s ahead. I’ve been embroidering for years and am constantly on the lookout for new techniques, designs and products. And I LOVE tutorials!
I would tell them learning is the easy part, finding time for anything else once your hooked is the hard part.
Seriously, I’d say “Here’s my card.” I bought my machine for my business and my goal it to have it pay for itself by the end of the year.
Just keepin’ it real!
Dana
I would encourage them with a twist on an old saying, “I think, therefore I CAN!” The first step in the ability to do something is wanting to do it and then having the confidence in yourself to believe that you can learn the skill.
I always figure that, if other people can learn to do this, then I can to!
I have two friends who both said the same thing. Went with both of them to ‘advise” on getting a machine. Now both are enjoying the fun! We all gether together at least once a month to show, share and sew!
That’s me…I’m that person! Thas so cute, I could never make that????? Never say never…I cant wait for the video and tutorial so that I can…and will! I still cant believe what I have learned from YCMT! I Can’t wait for the new site!
I tell them, “sure you can, but until you get a machine, I would be happy to do it for you!” Then I hand over my card π
I always tell people “the machine does it for you!” ;o)
I would tell them that “You can definately do this!” I started sewing several years ago and taught myself. If I could do it, anybody can! Embroidery is the same thing… you just work at it and before you know it… you’re able to master it! It’s great fun!
Anybody can make this, follow the directions and visualize what they are saying. If you get stumped, I can help you. I can also help you with tricks that I have tried over the years to make the project look store bought!
I would say “You CAN make this!”
Sure you can Come on over and we will get started!
I would say that is what I always thought, too. Take it one step at a time and read the manuel on it. It isn’t as hard as you think. After your first trial, you’ll be addicted. I love my machine and have just upgraded so I can do so much more. I would also share SWAK with them and tell them to watch for the tutorial. If you can sew, YCMT! If not, I’ll do it for you! π Everyone can learn to sew and embroider. I have learned so much from my best friend, who is an expert, just by asking her to explain it to me.
I would tell them they can do anything if they put there mind to it, there is no such word as I can’t or I could never do that.
I would then point them to your two websites and offer my help if they needed it.
I teach classes at my local store and I constantly am telling people how easy machine embroidery is. My sister once told me, If you have the right equipment, anything is possible! Many times I find myself “coaching” somoene through the process of designing their own pattern or design. Besides, if you do make a mistake, it often can be used as another project. While learning to embroider on an older machine, I didn’t get my letters lined up exactly. I was making a baby bib. It was supposed to read “Jesus loves Me.” Because my letters were not aligned properly, I added “Mistakes and all!” Just go ahead, be creative and most of all, Don’t stress out!
I always say, “It really isn’t that hard.”, because once you know what to do and have a good pattern, it isn’t hard. If they are serious about it, I always share where I got the pattern. If they are interested in the embroidery, I share info about my machine and about embroidery machines in general. I’m always willing to help someone else get addicted to this fun craft. I’m such an enabler :).
I don’t know how either…yet…but I’m willing to try as soon as I can talk DH into letting me buy a machine!!!!!!!!
Sure you can! Come on over and I will show you how easy it is.
I always wanted to be an artist but could never draw very well. “THIS” is my way of being that artist I always wanted to be.\! I just love sitting and watching my embroidery machine stitch each design, one color at a time, and seeing that “beautiful” design come to life on my fabric canvas. What a rush!!
You don’t have to be able to sew to do machine embroidery/spplique! It is so easy, and so much fun! YOu just have to have the right tools! π
Yes you can! It is soooo easy. The machine does all the work and you get all the credit! What could be more fun?
I’d say, “Oh, you absolutely can!” The machine does all the work for you – the hardest part is deciding which design to use – so you might have to make 3 or 4 things so you don’t have to pick! I’d love to help you – come on over!” I’ve actually gotten several of my friends on to sewing b/c it is so fun, and fun to spend time with friends!
I have had this question too many times, and I tell everyone OHHH yes you can! I have told them about Youcanmakethis.com and now I am excited to tell them about SWAK… I love how easy to use everything is with the detailed instructions and wonderful e-books.
Ok I have to be honest, depending on the person I might say…oh yes it is really hard work, I worked all week on this…hahaha!!
I’d tell them up until a couple months ago, I thought I couldn’t embroider either, but I took the plunge and bought my first machine, with the help of SWAK and YouCanMakeThis, I am now an embroidery aficionado.
Of course you can…..but beware – it’s addictive!
Someone just asked me that this past week! My reply was “It is a lot easier than you think! You can do ANYTHING with YCMT”
I would tell them that it just takes a little time and there are great tutorials on YCMT and SWAK!!! GO check them out!
~Heather
First I say THANK YOU!! And tell them how easy it was. Then, I always refer them to You Can Make This. I always have people say “I’m not creative or crafty” or “I have a machine that I have never used”. With YCMT, you don’t need to know how, you just learn how!
I have many customers who are beginning sewers. I always encourage them and offer to answer any questions. It is neat to inspire others to learn to sew. It is true that it does not help the business bottom line but, I am sure it helps in life’s bottom line.
I would tell them how fun it was and that if they didn’t have a machine that they could start doing it by hand. That’s what I do when I don’t have access to my mothers embroidery machine.
My first response would be “Me either!” haha! But then I’d tell them that they can do anything they really want to do and the adventure would probably be really fun! Then I’d jump right in and learn it with them. I’m always game for a good challenge!
I would say.. Yes you can! But if you don’t want to I can do it for you! LOL! If you do want to make it, check out my page and the link to youcanmakethis.com. They have the greatest patterns for beginners to experts and I use them constantly! In fact I had this same conversation about two weeks ago. π
Oh, that’s an easy one! First I would tell them about the YCMT site, and the YCST site. There are easy patterns, some free! There is someone to help you . There is a forum to post any problems so that a more experienced person can help. You can share ideas and hints and learn, learn, learn!
Even newbies like me can make fantastic things!
I would say well its not THE most simple thing you must have patience to go through all the steps correctly but if you have the patience and want to learn from the Pros there are downloadable patterns and instructions at youcanmakethis.com and downloadable machine embroidery and applique patterns at SWAkembroidery.com. These are all affordable and very easy to follow. Plus the site has a secure checkout and instant download delivery!
I would tell them that it is easy and I taught myself with a little help from my friends at SewForum!
I love this comment, I hear it often. I hate to loose customers, but I say…yes you can, you just need the right motivation (smiling happy kids!), and the right instructions. I tell all my non-sewing friends to check out YCMT and now will tell my friends about this site. Can’t wait to see what goodies you will have for us in the future!
I would say, “Of course you could and I will be glad to help you in any way I can”. “When would you like to start?”
I love to sew and encourage everyone to try- I can’t even count the number of people that I have told of YCMT!!!
I agree with everyone else. Anyone can do this and I would certainly encourage them to try it out. Its really a blast once you get started and I swear its hard to STOP doing it!!
Robin
First, I would encourage anyone to try it at least once. It isn’t as hard as it looks but it does take practice to get the gorgeous results. Second, I would tell them about the fabulous sites from YouCanMakeThis.com.
I’d do the same and offer to make it for them and give out my card! If I knew they had a machine then of course I’d tell them where to go!
I always say, “if I can do it you can too”! I love to share my embroidery and items I have made with my friends and family. I usually get a few started on items I have made. I love it.
Well, let’s be honest. Do you really want to tell them how easy it is? I mean, as I said in my first post, I’m not that creative but this let’s it look like I’m not only creative but talented as well. I do tell them though, honestly, that anyone can do it with the right equipment. I was amazed when I first started how easy it really was.
It just takes learning how, and I’m willing to teach you.
I would share the satisfation you get after creating a OOAK outfit and how excited my kiddos are when they get something that Mommy made them! Definately worth battling the learning curve!
I would just smile with complete joy and thank them and add….I once thought that I could never make something like this either. BUT if you have a sewing and/or embroidery machine and the internet then you CAN make this too and I can tell you how! YCMT and SWAK, Baby….they rock! From start to finish you can learn, in a language you can understand π how to make anything your little heart desires! BONUS…..Free designs too!!
I have told many, many friends about YCMT and now I have another site to chat about…SWAK π
You could if you tried if you are not wanting to try I will be glad to make you one for $$$$.
Oh yea I am looking forward to all the new and exciting things coming on SWAK embroidery!!!!!
I get that comment all of the time! Of course, growing up I HATED when my mother would walk through stores stating loudly that she could make it for less $! So I never do that. I think it, but never say it. π But when a friend says they wish they could do this or could never do that, I tell them that if they have the desire to spend the time learning, then they can do it! And to let me know if they want any help. I truly believe it’s the desire (or cumpulsion?) to say “I did it myself” that leads me to have so many hobbies – that many people think are beyond their reach. And yes, some cost more than others, but you can usually get by with very little investment until you know the depth to which your interest will lead you! It’s all in what we want to spend our time doing and learning.
I would tell them I thought I couldn’t do it either but I am living proof that you can do anything you set your mind too with the right instructions. I have made some amazing sets from youcanmakethis.com instructions. If I can do it So can they. Thanks Lezette
I would tell them that all you have to do is be nice to your embroidery machine and the rest is easy!!
I fought my husband on buying an Embroidery Machine. (yes, I have the best husband ever). I didn’t think I would have the time or talent to use the machine. I now tell people all the time that is the most fun I’ve had on a sewing machine and with a little time and practice…ANYONE can do it. You don’t need a big, pricey, fancy machine to get the most beautiful results. All you need it a little creativity and you’ve got it made.
I would do like most here I would say I could do it for ya.. But if they had a machine I would refer them to ycmt and swak…
Well, last week I would have simply said:” I don’t know how either, but if you ever find out how, let me know!LOL!”
But now, I can simply say: “let’s go to this site , and learn together!”
In a few months I am hoping to say:”It’s beautiful Γs is not! I will let you in on a little secret….”
Embroidery is easier than you think! And it’s addictive! Do not be intimidated by it! I hadn’t sewn since I was a tween with my grandmother and I taught myself how to do it – along with wonderful groups like this to help me along the way! You will not regret it! I promise
Anyone can do it. Some will like it and some will not. You need to have patience and remember practice makes perfect! And even if it is not perfect you did accomplish something very special!
I’d have to say I’m w/ Christy on this one too! But…
I remember saying the same thing and I am doing it too thanks to someone taking time to show me. So I’d have to pass along that if possible & let them know about YCMT.com & now this .
Do you guys offer digitizing? If so how do I contact for this?
I would say…I jumped in and bought a sewing/embroidery machine not knowing how to do either. My first custom outfit for DD was a Christmas dress that I was offered 200.00 for!!
It took me 6 months of worrying before testing it out to see what the embroidery part of the machine would do!!
And now…It is hooked up permanently to my computer and I even bought a new machine to use to just sew with so I don’t have to keep moving it.This has all been within the past year!!
So I say…Jump right in with both feet like I did and you won’t be sorry!! And just don’t look UNDER the things I make because you would be disappointed π
I get that question all the time and I always say “Yes, you can”. It is very easy and adds a wonderful touch to anything you do. I have sent people to YCMT.com to see the tutorials. I can’t wait to see the SWAK tutorials.
Oh yes you can!! When would you like to begin?
You would be so surprised at how easy it is! I would warn them, however, how easily they will become addicted to sewing, machine embroidery and the SWAK site!
Practice makes perfect!
I would tell them where to find your website to get one of the tutorials and give them my number to call if they need help:)
It would definitely depend on the situation. Even though I have 5 kids, I am not the most patient teacher. I would gladly teach any of my friends who have a machine, but otherwise I would do like Christy and say “Bring me your ideas and I’ll make it happen!!” Honestly, we have to make these machines pay for themselves! π
I know I will sound like a broken record with all the other posts…but…” Hey, I know of a great site that will walk you through the fun process!! It is brand new and well needed for those who need Elementary instructions!! Very instructional Friendly!! Plus all the fun and fresh designs…and you don’t have to leave your home to get some new fun stuff to stitch out!! And you get it as soon as you hit the pay button!! What more can a girl want…Instant patterns!!
I usually tell people that they can do it and I teach classes if they are interested, or I also sell many embroidered items. If they are close friends I ask what do you want and I’ll do it for you! Tiffany
I always say if you can read you can do anything!
I never even took Home Ec., so…If I can do it, anyone can! My embroidery machine sat for three years before I ever had the courage to try it! Now I wish I had not wasted three years!
I would tell them how intimidated I used to be about sewing clothing, and how now I LOVE the challenge of making new things and how great it feels to see the finished product! I used to think I never could either, but with great Ebooks and tutorials found on YCMT and SWAK, I believe anyone can if they want to! I think these ebooks were published by people who once thought the same “don’t think I can do something that cute”………..
I would say, “Embroidery is the easy part- the machine does all the work… especially with great downloadable designs from sites like SWAK. It makes creating personalized or OOAK items fun and easy:)”
I would say “Thank you so much! You know it’s not as difficult as most people think. There’s a really neat site called Youcanmakethis.com and it has great ebooks. If you’re not into making things yourself, here’s my website. I do custom orders!”
I think I’d say, I’m still learning myself! But it’s a lot of fun practicing! And I would definitely tell them about YCMT and now SWAKembroidery! (Like I do already when my little girl wears outfits I’ve made for her!)
I am so excited to learn more about machine embroidery…but first I need a machine. Will the site feature advice on machines or info on where to look for advice?
Yes you can…I am a newbie and you saw how great mine turned out. Plus there is this awesome website that will have everything thing that you need to create a piece of art adorbable as mine..its called You Can Make This and there new site SWAK EMbroidery. Visit you will be hooked and making much more then an embroidered shirt!!!
I get that comment all the time. I point out that most of us have skills that we are not born with. We aquire them with some practice and focus, patience not required. I tell them the best place to start is from right where they are now. I tell them mistakes are not a problem if you view them as learning moments not as mistakes. I do not tell them I will do it for them. I do offer to share information and point them in the direction of resources that will help them learn. I do encourage them with praise and positive feedback. I do enjoy sharing with them the pleasure I get from being creative in my life.
I’d tell them that anyone can sew “cute things” if they want to then I’d point them in the direction of where to find lessons, machines, fabric, designs, and ideas that will boost their creativity!
Come on, I’ll show you :o)
I’d say: “You never know what you can do until you try!”. And I’d also refer them to this site and my other new favorite site: http://www.youcanmakethis.com!
If you want to, you can. Let me know if you’d like for me to show you how.
I would tell them what my sister used to say…
everthing is made by somebody. And everyone didn’t know how sometime. You start small and work your way up. I’m always telling people about YCMT. It’s so easy for them to remember the website, too.
Once you try it you’ll be hooked, you’ll want to do it again and again!
Never hurts to try!
Well, I would tell them to go to the “You can Make this” or the “You can Sew this” or the new “SWAK” sites and pick out something that they really love! Then, clean out some space and a little block of time and read all the instructions and get your stuff ready. Then just sit down and give it a try!!!! You never learn anything by saying “I can’t”. Most people will be surprised what they really can do. You just have to find something that you really, really want. That is what makes the difference.
Lisa
Girl! It’s an amazing feeling to watch someone you gift an embroidered item just drop their jaw in complete amazement! “Shocking! YOU made THIS?” Yes! could you believe it?!! Would you like me to make something for you?!!! or show you how?
I would tell them that not in a million years would I have ever dreamed of making such nice things, but with practice (and some great ebooks), I can now look like a pro.
I get that comment a lot love to machine embro. and love to make my grandkids new and different outfits. Tell them about swak and you can make this -one of my favorite web sites.
Nothing is impossible just time consuming. Lets take the time to do it.
I was trying to figure out how to post to this. So just in case.. I would say If I can do it you can do it and it’s so much fun!!!Sharing what you love with other people… I’ll be glad to help anyway I can…
Oh yes you can! With a little confidence, a few lessons and a creative thought you can do anything you want with embroidery. It’s really not hard and the rewards of your task are so great!Don’t be afraid to try and don’t be afraid to ask for help. We are all still learning.
DR in SC
Yes, you can!!! Sewing is pretty much a step by step process. Just take your time and don’t be afraid to ask for help–most people who love sewing are very happy to help newbies! Check out local classes and of course wonderful sites on the internet like SWAK.
YES YOU CAN !! If I can do it so can you and soooooooo much more. π
~ K ~
Just try it. You’ll love it. Don’t look at the whole. Start with the parts. First you get to shop for fabric, pattern, thread, machine (or come over and use one of mine), etc. Easy. Second, pull all your courage together and start cutting, hooping or whatever is first. The first cut or stitch is the hardest. A seam has to be REALLY crooked before you can tell on a finished garment. Avoid zippers and buttonholes on the first garment. HAVE FUN. The journey is as important as the destination. Enjoy the pleasure of the creating, as well as the creation. And finally, do I have a website for you.
I’d tell them “That’s what *I* used to think, too!” and then tell them about these sites, where it’s so easy and fun to learn to do all this neat and beautiful stuff!
I get this comment, as I am sure those of us who sew and embroider do, a lot from people who see the outfits I make for my kids. I always reply with, “If you can drive a car, you can do this. π Of course, I would be happy to so you how as well.”
Anything is possible …. especially when you go into hawk with your hubby!
I didn’t think I could do this either, but the more you mess around with stuff and talk to people the better you get.
It also helps with a little family support. My hubby wonders what he ever got himself into when he gave the $$ for my 2nd machine!
LOL!!
M.E. π
You can do anything you put your mind to. I believe that with all my heart. Sometimes it just takes a little more practice then others.
I would tell them to go to YCMT or SWAK and look at the project photos to help them choose what they want to make, then order the ebooks. I have had very good results with the patterns and instructions I’ve purchased.
If I was talking to them in person or they were within a commuting distance I would either tell them to come over and they could use my machine to do it with my help. If they weren’t able to get to where I was but still a commutable distance I’d offer to take my machine to them so we could work on it together. I would also tell them that by doing this they would also be helping me (which would be very true) because I’m getting more practice at doing it.
I would say Sure You Can! Don’t give up before you even try. There are so many wonderful people in the sewing community that help is just a phone call or e-mail away, but you probably won’t need it. You’d be surprised that something that looks hard is really just made up of several little steps that combine to give you a great looking product!
Well, while I was fumbling through my purse to get my card, I would tell them that, I couldn’t either just a few short months ago. I would also tell them. that I may be a stay at home mom, but Im NOT Suzy Homemaker, Betty Crocker, or Martha Stewart., but THIS I CAN DO, and love. You have to try it if your at all interested in sewing or embroidery, just try it and you will be an addict like me. I would point them in the direction of ycmt, and swak, while telling them if you can follow directions you can do it. Now if I could just find a site to help with all those pesky chores, you know cleaning, cooking, ect. or better yet hire that out!!!!
I would go with the old faithful saying..”Can’t never could do anything”. By itself it stands alone, but with a little effort alot can be accomplished. I would then tell them that there is alot of help out there if you have questions and send them to the places to fine the answers. Thanks to all of you that have the answers, I know that WE (ones that can’t do it without you) appreciate YOU!
I would tell them that they wouldn’t have to;) They can let the machine do it. lol. And then I would direct them to YCMT.
I would tell them that their are many levels of skill needed to make embroidered items. There is one for beginners that would get them started. Then they could progress at their own speed. Some folks are happy with just adding a monogram to an item. Some want to decorate children’s clothing. Some progress to photostitch design or quilting. Anyone who knows how to run their own machine can do designs. Most sewing centers will give lessons too. They are usually free if you buy your machine from them.
I do not know what I am doing yet but I just heard of this new web site at “SWAKembroidery.com”. I was just browsing the site and it looks like it will help me out alot and if it will help me I know it can help anyone. I am real excited. I can hardley wait till it really gets up and going. I have 2 grandchildren, I will have sooo much fun. I know they will love it also.
Thank you for this fun new site SWAK!
Becky
I would tell them my standard reply: My 9th grade home ec teacher told me I had no talent – so if I can do this, ANYONE can do this! I would dearly love to show that teacher the over 50 quilts I have made and all the garments I have made for myself and my children over the years, last years winter coat with Jacobean embroidery, and all the sewn and embroidered gifts I have made.
Yes, you can. Just start with a design that you really like and that is not too time consuming. Then just continue from there with harder and harder designs. Most of all do designs that you really, really like. The more you do the easier it gets.
I retaught myself to sew about 8 years ago making home decor items and then finally ventured out to making clothing for my daughter. Now I have a store on Ebay and my passion has turned into a small business for myself. It is such a wonderful feeling when people are calling you to create a special outfit for their children. There is nothing like putting your special touch on an item.
Sure, you can! I am learning too; come over Saturday am and we’ll play with my new machine together.
hi, like I always say Never say Never. With help anything is possible.I’ve taught myself to machine embroider with the many articles I read and from the questions asked by other new embroiders. Believe me you can do it, it’s great fun and rewarding when you see the finished product.
Well, I would say never say never. I truly feel everyone can learn! Each of has a eye for what we like and don’t like or care for, that is why there are so many designs and patterns out there! I will often help others figure out how to do a project that they want to do. Now they may not want to do it for everyone on their Christmas list BUT the main thing is they did it.
I think the best gene we have is our creativity gene:) It is one of the things that makes me smile everyday, and when I learn something new.. I will run around the house like “rocky” proud of my accomplishments:)
I would tell them, you can do anything! We all have special talents that will shine out when we use that creativity. I have found that other crafty people are always willing to help you when something seems difficult, as long as you are willing to learn, it is possible.
I would say–Why Not. Just give it a try. Come on over and I will show you how easy it is to make a beautiful embroidered item. You can do it just like I did.
The same thing I tell people when I get comments on my daughters stuff. “Yes you can. There are places out there with very easy to understand directions and it only takes the gumption to try it the first time to get hooked.” If I, a stay at home mom with three kids, a love of reading that rivals my love of sewing, lots of baking by request of my husband and all of the other things moms and wives have to do to keep a house a home can have the time to sit and sew, anyone can.
And I’d be more than willing to teach, but no one’s taken me up on that yet.
I’d tell them when you become a grandmother after 13 years of waiting, you will learn. π !! But then I’d add, it takes a good machine, good designs, and patience to learn to do it the RIGHT way the FIRST time. It’s hard to unlearn bad habits, isn’t it?
I’d offer to teach them, usually they aren’t interested…..or I’ll trade a dinner made by you for a project made by me!
I have just discovered you and look forward to many opportunities to learn and be useful. Thank you for this opportunity. Mary
Yes you can! I taught my 6 year old to do it, I can teach you! When do you want to come over to start!?
I would say, if you want to, you can do it. I will help you get started.
I would say, any one who wants to can. I am handicapped, confined to walker/wheelchair. I have so much arthritis in my back and neck. I can’t hardly write any more, but much embroidery is so uplifting, so easy any one can do it. Also, it helps take my mind off all my pain and all my troubles. My husband has PTSD. His physcharist told him to get a new hobby. He needed to stay busy. I taught him how to do lace. He has made our daughter a queen size lace bed cover. He is now making lace soldiers and handing out to our soldiers coming back from Iraq. We live in Hinesville, Ga home of the third ID. He has suffered the PTSD going back to the Vietnam war, where he was shunnded and laughed at, for fighting in a war that even Jane Fonda was against. He gives these soldiers out and gives them a big thank you and hand shake. Something he never got for risking his life.
I tell them my philosophy of “Each one teach one” that I learned very early on when I started embroidering. I am so happy to have found out earlier this week that it has come to life right in my own family. I have a 14 year old daughter that I taught to hand cross stitch when she was only 6. We just had a new baby born in the family – my first grandchild, her first niece and she made the baby a gift. Not only that but she has taught her BFF how to stitch and all her other friends, the males included are now stitching along with her.
I knew she had the machine quilting and embroidering down when her girl scout project a few years ago was a quilt for a charity for the International Red Cross make with embroidered blocks (each girl did a block on my Janome 300E) and my daughter used my sewing machine to make them into a quilt, but I was so touched when her friends told me that when she taught them she told them that they were to remember the theory of “Each one teach one” so that the arts would continue on – just like I had taught her.
Now when someone tells me “I could never do that” I tell them this theory and offer to teach them how to do it or to pick out a design and put it on a towel so they are not intimidated. I find that offering to let them sit and watch the machine stitch out a design they pick onto a towel hooks them almost every time. It is so much fun to gather friends like flowers in the garden of life using embroidery.
First, I say, yes you can……… If then you decide you
can’t, just come by or call. I can do it for you.
I tell people that if I can do it, anyone can! I love this website – there are so many different, wonderful projects and ideas – I love it!! Take heart, novice, take heart and go to the project ideas!
I would say “I’d be glad to help and if we run into a snag, the embroidery world is full of people who unselfishly share their knowledge. I’ts fun and actually the machine does most all the work. I did it and you can, too!
Paulette
I would say, yes you can! I would love to help you get started!
The first thing I ask them is do you have a machine? Then I ask them to have me sit down and show them. I tell them it really isn’t that hard. and yes I threw away many projects that didn’t quite look right.
You will never know what you can do until you try. You just might be surprised at what you can do with machine embroidery.
I taught myself, just by researching online guides. If I can do it anyone can. And I’d love to help you in the process! I love teaching others!
From what I have read, almost anyone could do these projects because of such great instructions and tutorials!
I say the same thing I always do: “I finished three stunning gifts the first 2 hours I had my machine and I had never done anything like this before!”
I would tell them that they can, too! I would show them all I have done since learning and then take them to your site…the rest, as they say, would be history:).
I would say ” You never know unless you try” with a great big smile. And then I would invite them to learn right along with me.
I would tell them, I know isn’t it! I don’t know how to do it yet either, but we can learn. I know of a site called SWAK, and they are ready to help people like you and me! Here is the site ( I would then write it down) and say; If you want we can learn together! =0)
I would tell them, “Really, the machine does all the work for you. The hard thing is taking the plunge and buying the embroidery machine. You would be glad you did though, because you are only limited by your imagination. Not only can you embroider, you can applique and then embellish with ribbon, rick rack, buttons, etc. Not only that, custom embroidery gives everything a much more professional look, bringing your work up to the next level. I love it!” Thanks, SWAK Embroidery for providing us with such a great website!
I just got a machine…..lets learn together!!!
